First of all Wishing you all a very happy new year :).. Starting My first post of the year with sweet for the day festival. Thiruvathirai is a Hindu festival celebrated widely in Tamil nadu and Kerala.It is celebrated on a full moon night in dec – jan and it is celebrated for lord siva who is praised as Athiriyan from which Thiru + Athirai comes Thiruvathirai. On this day shiva and parvati idols are taken out from the temple for a procession. Traditionally on this day kali’s and kootu’s are made to offer god. When researched about the festival in google found that kali is very important offering made and ended up making this Koova kali / Arrowroot Halwa which turned yumm.

Ingredients
Arrowroot Pd – 1/2 cup
Water – 11/4 cups
Ghee – 2 tbsp
Cashew nuts – For Garnish
For Syrup
Jaggery pd – 3/4 cup
Water – 1/2 cup
Method
- Grease a plate and keep it ready.
- In a sauce pan heat jaggery and water and boil them till all the jaggery dissolves.
- In a bowl add arrowroot pd and water mix them without lumps.
- In a pan pour dissolved arrowroot and cook the in medium flame.
- Stir them constantly till this thickens and turn glossy.
- Add the jaggery syrup and mix them well till it combines well and form a mass.
- Add ghee to the halwa in stir them till it leaves the sides of the pan.
- Pour the halwa in the greased plate and level to square from all sides
- Let it cool for a while , then cut them into desired shapes and serve them.
